New Americans Make Biden Win Possible

Following early election results showing wins for progressive candidates up and down the ballot and the recent announcement of Joe Biden’s victory, New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF) Founder and President Sayu Bhojwani released the following statement:

“This week’s victories and today’s announcement are a testament to the true believers in our democracy, marking the end of Trump’s cruel white nationalist reign and the start of a new chapter of our democracy.

“Thanks to bold new candidates running inclusive, engaging down ballot races and historic turnout, people like us—New Americans, immigrants, BIPOC leaders, women, LGBTQ+ advocates, and allies—have pushed Trump and his supporters out of office and elected Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

“Let’s be perfectly clear: Joe Biden won because of people like us. We are the margin of victory in key states like Arizona, Michigan and Georgia. Because of the longstanding efforts of our organizers and advocates in these core states, our communities were able to push the results over the edge and solidify Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ electoral road to the White House.

“Now the work to rebuild our democracy begins. We know that the damage done by Trump and his administration will not be undone overnight. But working alongside the progressive leaders who won their elections last night and other people like us in office, we are confident that our movement can hold the Biden-Harris administration accountable to serving our communities and expanding their agenda to protect our rights, decriminalize our communities and create a democracy that works for and represents all people.”
