New American Candidate Database (NACD)

The New American Candidate Database (NACD) is the first public, comprehensive, and downloadable dataset dedicated to tracking first and second-generation Americans running for state legislative office in the 2024 election cycle.

Developed by the New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF), this dataset is a vital resource for the public, media, academics, and advocacy organizations to monitor New American candidates and incumbents seeking reelection.

The NACD offers a clean, detailed snapshot of candidate participation in primaries by drawing from multiple sources—including state legislative and secretary of state websites, Ballotpedia, and The Pipeline Fund. While the dataset may underestimate the total number of candidates due to its reliance on self-reported identities from campaign websites, news articles, and social media profiles, it nonetheless provides a significant contribution to understanding the growing influence of New Americans in state-level politics and their role in diversifying leadership across the United States.
