New American Leaders Action Fund Proud to Support the Growing Bench of New American Candidates With Announcement of Second Endorsements in 2021 Cycle

After historic engagement from New American and BIPOC communities in the 2020 election, New American Leaders Action Fund is keeping up the momentum by endorsing its second wave of candidates on the ballot in 2021.

“New American candidates are rising to be the faces and voices that our democracy needs. It is these candidates who will engender trust in our democracy by leading with values of unity, equity and inclusion. And seeing so many first-time women candidates on the ballot is no accident,” said Sara Le Brusq, Interim President of New American Leaders Action Fund.

“The emergence of strong New Americans candidates up and down the ticket in recent cycles is a force that continues to build, and is testament to the many years spent on recruitment, bench building, and on the ground field to bring out new communities of voters. This work continues, amid the many acts of voter suppression we are seeing in conservative enclaves, further underlining the clear need for new leadership,” Le Brusq continued.

New American Leaders Action Fund has issued endorsements in Georgia, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, and Virginia, including first and second choice rankings in one race. Endorsed candidates include:

  • Liliana Bakhtiari: Atlanta City Council, District 5, Georgia

  • Kendra Hicks: Boston City Council, District 6, Massachusetts

  • Farah Louis: City Council District 45, New York

  • Gigi Li: New York City Council, District 1 - Rank 1 Choice

  • Jenny Low: New York City Council, District 1 - Rank 2 Choice

  • Ajmeri Hoque: Dublin City Council, Ward 1, Ohio

  • Sam Shim: Worthington City Schools Board of Education, Ohio

  • Kathy Tran: Virginia House of Delegates, District 42, Virginia

“We are proud to put our support behind these fierce trailblazers, who are shaking up politics as usual. Many of these candidates are firsts in their communities, but they will not be the last.”
