New American Leaders Action Fund Announces First Endorsements of 2022
As the first wave of critical 2022 midterm elections approaches, New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF) announced their first round of endorsements for the cycle, focusing on the key state of Georgia. The initial list of endorsed candidates includes:
Dr. Michelle Au; Georgia State House, District 50
Erendira Brumley; Georgia State House, District 51
Jason Esteves; Georgia State Senate, District 6
“New Americans in Georgia made Democratic wins possible in 2020. Now in 2022, we are running for office and taking the future of our democracy into our own hands,” said Ghida Dagher, president of New American Leaders Action Fund. “These three New American candidates are the leaders our communities have been waiting for—visionary, progressive, and unapologetically open about their identities as immigrants and people of color. They are challenging outdated and racist ideas of what it looks like to be a leader, paving the way for other advocates to follow in their path.
“As the only national organization committed to empowering and supporting New American, BIPOC candidates, NALAF is thrilled to launch our 2022 endorsements in Georgia with this impressive slate of candidates. But we also recognize the national importance of their campaigns.
“These candidates and their campaigns represent what Democrats must come to terms with if they want to win in 2022 and beyond: That voters—and immigrant voters in particular—will not have their votes taken for granted. Our NALAF endorsees invest heavily into their communities, connecting with each person to build trust and create lasting change, not just win votes. If Democrats want to win Georgia or any other state, they must learn from our candidates and their community-centered approach.
“We know that these candidates and our communities are the new leaders of our democracy. Together, we are committed to voting out the pale, stale, and male establishment and supporting candidates like our NALAF-endorsees who are ready to create a government where all people are heard and represented.”
