New American Leaders Action Fund Launches Inaugural Endorsement Cohort in Maryland
Earlier today, New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF) announced its first slate of endorsed candidates in Maryland. The inaugural endorsee cohort includes:
Gabriel Acevero, candidate for Maryland House of Delegates, District 39
Raaheela Ahmed, candidate for Maryland State Senate, District 23
Fatmata Barrie, candidate for Montgomery County Council, District 5
Bernice Mireku-North, candidate for State’s Attorney, Montgomery County
“From local councils to state legislatures and beyond, it has never been more clear—we need a new generation of leaders in elected office. And in states like Maryland, New Americans are stepping up to be the leaders their communities have been waiting for. We are thrilled to join them and support their work to champion progressive, democracy strengthening policies,” said Ghida Dagher, president of New American Leaders Action Fund.
“The candidates in our inaugural endorsement slate are the types of fierce, progressive leaders we need. They are running people-centered, progressive campaigns that empower their communities to own their power and strengthen our democracy,” she continued. “We know that once in office, they will use their authentic experiences and shared immigrant identities to advocate for policies that create a more inclusive future for us all.”
“The time for politics as usual is over. And thanks to candidates like Gabriel Acevero, Raaheela Ahmed, Fatmata Barrie, and Bernice Mireku-North, we are one step closer to ushering out the pale, stale, and male political establishment and bringing in a new era of progressive leadership. We are proud to stand with them and create a democracy that works for and represents all of us.”
